Long-term behavior change for a healthier life takes time. We know that! That's why we don't tempt you with quick wins but provide an environment in which you can develop and achieve long-term goals. You should commit to at least six months. Ideally, LeanOnMe will be with you for 12 months or more.
LeanOnMe offers a unique, holistic concept based on the latest scientific findings. It covers the areas of psychology, nutrition and exercise. The goal is a long-term lifestyle change. LeanOnMe also offers members the opportunity to meet in omline support groups to experience extensive support.
The short answer is no. Each time you log a meal, you will receive feedback on its nutritional quality, so you can identify easy ways to make improvements. Just logging one meal a day will still allow you to identify ways to improve your diet. Over time, it will become easier to log multiple meals a day, since the healthy meals will be saved, so you can see how they complement meals you haven’t analyzed yet.
The nutritional scores on your dashboard are the average scores of your individual meals logged for the day. If you only logged one meal, the scores on the dashboard will reflect the one meal. If you logged two meals, the scores on the dashboard will reflect the average of those two meals. Since nutrition is not about a single food item or meal, this allows you to see how the quality of your diet changes each time you eat a meal. You can check the quality of the individual meal, and then see how it changes the quality of your nutrition for the entire day.
Each week, you will learn about a specific area of nutrition. Then, you will set one to two SMART goals to practice what you learned in your daily life for the week. You will use the Food Log to assist you to check the nutritional quality or impact of completing each SMART goal. This teaches you how to acquire new knowledge in nutrition, and practice it in real life. It also helps you maintain a steady pace improving the nutritional quality of your diet.
Each week, you will notice that topics build on one another. The first few months is about learning about different areas of nutrition. This will prepare you for the next phase, where you will see how the areas interact with one another on a holistic level.
If you complete a lesson and it doesn’t appeal to you, or you don’t really care for the SMART goals available, you can always do another from a previous week. There are plenty to choose from. The point of the program is to explore different areas of nutrition, and consistently set weekly goals in topics you find interesting.
For the first month of the program, we don't track calories. A calorie is not a calorie. Some calories make us feel full, reduce cravings, stabilize blood sugar, heal our gut, and reduce inflammation. Other calories do the opposite, and put our body in a state of metabolic imbalance. The focus is first and foremost on improving calorie quality. The food log will give you tools to assess calorie quality. After six weeks in the program, you will unlock a calorie budget located: insert screen shot of calorie budget This should be used as a support tool, and should not take your focus away from nutritional quality.
Calorie density does not specifically tell you if a food item is healthy or unhealthy. It tells you if a food item is filling or not filling. If a food has a red calorie density, it doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't eat it. It just means you need to balance it with a green food item, so together they create a filling snack or meal.
Additionally, certain food items in the grains category in the database report their pre-cooked weight. Dried items like pastas, rice, and oatmeal may appear to have a red or orange calorie density. However, once cooked, the water they absorb put them in the green category. While we work to update as many pre-cooked items in our database as possible to show their cooked density score, it is something to be mindful of when analyzing your meals. Generally, the weight of rice, oatmeal, and pasta is almost doubled after cooking.
The program is designed so it is not overwhelming. You have to allow yourself enough time to learn about one aspect of nutrition before you can move on to the next. As you work through the Education section, you will unlock the relevant tools required to practice. This keeps you on the right track without feeling swamped.
